CV guides And Resume Resources
If your CV isn't as great as you'd like, check out some of these Resume / CV guides and resources. |
CV Guides play an important role in job hunting. There are hundreds of people out there offering CV advice. It can make it hard to know where to turn for CV help.
So we've waded through the masses and selected 3 of the best CV guides and resume resources to help you with your job-hunting. |
|
If you stumble across another good one, please let us know (via Contact Us) so we can review it and maybe include it on this page for future visitors.
Our top tips for CV advice are:
- Decide whether you want to write your own CV (it's not that hard) or get someone else to do it for you.
If you want to write your own, there's plenty of help and advice out there. Allow a full evening to re-write your CV - longer if you're starting from scratch.
Our free 5 day Interview Masterclass includes tips on day 2 for writing a CV to win job interviews.
There are plenty of other resume / CV guides available, too.
- For CV-writing services, ask to see samples of the company's work and make sure you understand how they create your CV. Bear in mind the finished product will only be as good and interesting as the information you provide.
Also, make sure you know your CV inside out. It could be really embarrassing to get to the interview and be "found out" for not having written your own CV.
The positive side of using a bespoke CV writing service is that you will get a CV that does justice to your experience and could increase your chances. But please make sure your CV or resume really is being written by an expert and isn't just being churned into a formula by a typist.
- We STRONGLY ADVISE that you tailor your CV for each application. "Standard" CVs rarely have enough "spark" to get a job interview.
It's easy to spot a standard CV. How? Because it's hard to tell why the applicant is a good candidate for the job.
Tailoring your CV is simple, if you have a good understanding of the job you're applying for. Make sure your relevant experience stands out. Cut out anything that detracts from the skills required for that role.
It takes a little time, but it really makes the difference.
