Review Your Own Performance
Job Interview Self-Analysis
|
Job interview self-analysis can help you learn from the interview, do even better in the next round and increase your chances of getting a job offer.
The strategies in this section help you objectively analyse your performance and let go of the "I wish I had..." thoughts that otherwise drive us nuts for weeks after job interviews.
By reviewing our performance, doing job interview self-analysis, rather than asking the interviewer for feedback, we can keep doing what's working and stop doing what's not. This improves our performance and reduces our stress levels.
The key to reviewing your interview performance is the "3Ls". Learn. Log. Let Go.
Learn
Think back through the interview process and ask yourself the following questions:
- What went well, in general?
- What would I do differently next time?
- How do I think the recruiter responded to me, as a candidate?
- What, specifically, would I change about how I prepared for the interview?
- What, specifically, would I change about how I handled the interview?
- What, specifically, would I change about my thought processes & feelings?
- What did I do that was particularly good?
Log
Write down your answers.
This really helps you clarify your thinking and means you're much more likely to make any changes needed, to do even better next time.
It also gives your mind the signal that it's ok to let go of the thoughts about your performance. After all, if you've written them down, you don't need to keep remembering them. This is an important stage in letting go.
Let Go
How to cut the post-interview stress!
You can't change what happened; you did your best. But you can learn from it - which is exactly what your learning log helps you do.
So let go of the interview and look to the future.
Worrying about it won't change anything.
Instead, focus on what went well and know that you've got your follow-up strategy in place, to maximise your chances.
