Interview Follow-Up - Job Interview Thank You Letter & Other Strategies

Why sending a thank you letter after an interview is such a good idea.

Should you really send a job interview thank you letter? Read on to find out why it can help you double your chances of a job offer.

As an interviewer, after days or weeks of interviewing, it can be hard to remember who said what. So following up with a job interview thank you letter, call or email will help them remember you.

It's unusual for a candidate to bother saying thank you after a job interview.

Plus it's a chance to remind them (subtly) of why you think you're a strong candidate.

You could add information that might not have been covered during the job interview.

For example, things you thought of on the way home and wish you had mentioned. Simply put them in the letter or email, explaining that you think it might be "of interest" to the reader.

Finish with a warm, but professional, sign-off that gently urges them to action.

For example: "I look forward to hearing from you soon."

Top Tip: Make sure you have the correct spelling of your interviewer's name - avoid offending them!

It's up to you whether you write, email or call. Use your judgment, based on what you learned in the interview, to decide which approach will work best for that interviewer.

Judge from what you learned about the interviewer whether this is a sensible option.

The downside is that many recruiters are simply too busy to take your call.

However, if you do get through to them, you can address any questions or concerns on the spot.

Follow the general guidelines given for the follow-up letter.
